With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Dwight David “Dave” Sloan, 77, who passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Brookdale Nursing in Lakeway, Texas after a battle with lung cancer. Dave was a man whose zest for life and unwavering love for his family and friends touched the lives of all who knew him. He passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and cherished memories.

Dave was born on December 26, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan to Dwight Henry “Paddlefoot” and Geraldine Sloan. He grew up in San Antonio and attended Alamo Heights High School. He later moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Radio, Television, and Film.

A master storyteller, Dave’s tales grew more embellished with each telling, weaving captivating narratives that kept his listeners enthralled. He also loved entertaining friends and family by singing and playing his Martin guitar. His love for sports was unmatched, and his alma mater, UT Austin, held a special place in his heart, and he cheered for them with unwavering loyalty.

Dave’s culinary skills were legendary, and his family savored every meal he prepared. His kitchen was a place of joy and togetherness, where laughter mingled with the aroma of his delicious creations. His appreciation for Tex-Mex cuisine knew no bounds. He judged the quality of a Mexican food joint by its cheese - a connoisseur of flavor in every sense.

Above all else, Dave adored his children, and his granddaughter was the sunshine that lit up his world.

Though Dave may have left this world, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His laughter, his stories, and his love will be cherished forever.

Dave is survived by his wife, Cynthia Marqués Sloan; his children, Christina “Nina” Sloan (Colby) Robbins and Jessica Sloan; granddaughter, Mia Robbins; sisters, Nancy Wenzel and Julie Sullivan; and many cherished extended family members.

A service for Dave will take place on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 411 Ranch Rd 620 South, Lakeway, Texas 78734.
